About Shantha Ratii Initiatives

Shantha Ratii Initiatives (SRI) is an Indian classical dance academy founded with the purpose of inspiring, enriching, and transforming individuals through the practice of dance.

At SRI, dance is not viewed merely as a performance skill, but as a powerful medium for personal growth, discipline, awareness, and cultural grounding. Our approach seeks to empower students by nurturing both their artistic abilities and inner strength.

We believe in offering students deep cultural roots through the study of Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi, complemented by Yoga, enabling them to grow with balance, confidence, and resilience.

SRI is among the leading Indian classical dance academies in Singapore, offering structured training for children and adults across beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels, guided by integrity, depth, and respect for tradition.

We will train you in the following

Our immersive dance education is rooted in traditional techniques, guided by eager enquiry, shaped by steadfast discipline and inspired by intuition. We nurture the dancer beyond just performance, to become a logical thinker who is motivated by enhanced senses and instincts. We plant seeds to grow an artiste whose aura exudes sophistication and refinement.

Bharatanatyam

Bharatanatyam originates from Tamil Nadu and is one of the oldest and most respected Indian classical dance forms. Its powerful geometry, precise movements, expressive storytelling and rhythmic complexity make Bharatanatyam simultaneously a visual delight and a spiritual discipline.

Kuchipudi

Kuchipudi originates from Andhra Pradesh, India. Graceful movements, rhythmic footwork, expressive storytelling (abhinaya), and dramatic presentation are its signature features.

Kalaripayattu

A martial arts form known for its origins in Kerala, India, Kalaripayattu is believed to have shaped the famed Chinese Shaolin monks’ development of their self-defence practice, which later evolved into kung-fu.

“Blindfolded” – Reimagining the Great Indian Epic Mahabharata

“Blindfolded” is a dance-theatre reimagining of the Mahabharata, told through the inner world of Queen Gandhari as she confronts her conscience on the eve of the devastating Kurukshetra war. Visited by her shifting, multi-voiced Conscience, Gandhari is forced to examine her choices, silences, and the moral blindness that shaped her family’s fate. As the tragedy unfolds, she meets Kunti, her sister-in-law, on the ravaged battlefield.

The work becomes a powerful reflection on loss, responsibility, and the destructive pull of ego and vengeance. Through Gandhari’s reckoning and Krishna’s timeless counsel, “Blindfolded” emerges as both a denunciation of war and a call to awaken to truth and Dharma in our own lives in these conflicted times.
